Pharmacokinetics and Indications: Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor and interferes in the synthesis of estrogen in the body. Because certain metastatic cells require the growth of estrogen but this medicine suppress estrogen and ultimately suppress the growth of cancerous cells. It is comparatively an expensive steroid and its effects are prolonged. It is also used by sportsmen such as athletes and bodybuilders as an anabolic steroid and additionally it has effect on the increased production of testosterone. It improves the masculine outlook of the individuals thats why it is very popular among athletes. It is used by body builders to improve the physical appearance of their bodies and to minimize the effects of estrogen. In men, it is used for the treatment of begining prostatic hyperplasia, hypogonadism and gynecomastia. In certain growth disorders, it is used in children to delay or slow the onset of puberty. This is because the growth plates of bones start closing due to the effect of speedy growth. It is used as a first line of treatment in those women who have advanced metastatic cancer of breasts. It is also used for the treatment of menopause signs.
Possible Side Effects: Its continuous use may lead to bone weakness and osteoporosis may occur. It has certain cardiovascular side effects as well, so the heart patient must use it very carefully. There are risks of fracture because of bone weakness. Nausea and vomiting can occur by its intake. Diarrhea, extreme tiredness, back pain, bone pain, headaches, ankle swelling, abdominal pains and irregular heart beat are also possible side effects of this medicine.
Effective Dose : 0.25 - 1 mg in every other day
